Yakubu Urges INEC Staff To Uphold Integrity Ahead Of November 11 Gubernatorial Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, urges staff to stay non-partisan and maintain integrity in the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi.

Yakubu made these remarks during his visits to various INEC offices to assess the preparations for the governorship elections scheduled for November 11.

This statement was reported in the commission’s bulletin in Abuja.

He emphasized INEC’s unwavering commitment to ensuring credible and fair elections in these states.

“INEC is not a political party and does not have a candidate in the Nov. 11 governorship election.

All we are going to do is to ensure that the people of Bayelsa and Imo States choose whoever they want to be their governors and our responsibility is to protect the people’s choice,” Yakubu said.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has urged Electoral Officers (EOs) in both states to ensure the early activation of all Registration Area Centres (RACs) to facilitate a seamless electoral process.

Yakubu emphasized the commission’s commitment to ensuring that election officials fulfill their duties effectively on election day.

He noted that a refresher training session is scheduled for Friday, November 10, in addition to the earlier sessions conducted on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

During his visit, Yakubu and his team also met with members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCESS) in both states. He addressed the heads of security agencies and discussed their readiness for the upcoming Saturday election.

Critical security issues, including measures to safeguard voters, election personnel, materials, collation centers, and transport providers, were among the significant topics discussed during the meeting.

Furthermore, Yakubu conducted a tour of some of INEC’s facilities in Yenagoa to inspect the available non-sensitive materials in preparation for the off-cycle election.

The INEC Chairman was accompanied by the National Commissioners and the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in both states.
