Army commences investigation into the death of indigene inside Ilesa barracks

The Nigerian Army has initiated a dialogue with the family of Yinka Adekunle, the victim of the recent melee that broke out between a soldier and three civilians at a beer parlour in Ilesa, Osun State.

The Nigerian Army 2 Division, Ibadan, Oyo State had in a letter, confirmed the receipt of the petition of the family of the victim.

In the letter, the family was advised to come forward with a lawyer to aid investigations into the matter surrounding the death of Yinka.

A member of the family, who identified himself simply as Adekunle, also confirmed the receipt of the letter by the family.

Recall that the father of Yinka, David Adekunle called for justice over the alleged torture of his son to death by some soldiers attached to the Nigerian Army Infantry Battalion Barracks of the Nigerian Army, Ibodi, Osun State, on March 25, 2022.

Investigations revealed that the officer in charge of the military formation, Lieutenant Tobi Akindapo has been invited to the 2 Division, lbadan, for interrogations since the news broke out.

Yinka Adekunle, aged 37 years, who is survived by his parents, wife and a baby, allegedly died in the army barracks, while his friend, who was also arrested by the soldiers, survived the torture.
