APC National Chairman, Deputy Resign From Senate

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Adamu, has resigned from the senate.

Adamu, until his formal resignation on Tuesday, represented Nasarawa West senatorial district in the National Assembly.

Adamu was elected as APC national chairman at the convention of the party that was held on March 26.

Abubakar Kyari, the current APC deputy chairman (north), also resigned his membership of the upper legislative chamber.

Until his resignation, he represented Borno north.

Their resignations were stated in letters read on the floor of the red chamber by Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Tuesday.

The development is premised on the Jegede Vs INEC & 3 ors case, where the supreme court held in a minority judgement that the election of Rotimi Akeredolu, Ondo state governor, would have been invalidated if Mai Mala Buni, then APC interim chairman, was joined as a party in the suit.

Recall that the minority judgement of the apex court held that Buni was an elected official (as governor of Yobe state) and not supposed to have held the position of APC caretaker committee chairman as stipulated in section 183 of the 1999 constitution.

Meanwhile, Vice-president Yemi Osinbajo, has invited members of the Senate APC Caucus to Iftar Tuesday evening at his official residence, Aguda House.
