Boko Haram/ISWAP Members Abduct 6 Construction Workers In Borno

Suspected Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters have kidnapped at least six officials of the Borno State government.

It has been reported that the kidnapped victims were abducted on Wednesday morning while on duty near Wovi village in the Chibok Local Government Area of the state.

The victims who are officials of the Borno State Ministry of Works were said to be supervising the construction of Chibok-Damboa road when they were abducted.

It is understood that the insurgents took away three Hilux trucks alongside the kidnapped government officials. However, one of the abducted staff who was a driver escaped unhurt.

Confirming the incident, Commissioner for Works, Yerima Saleh, said relevant security agencies have been informed in a bid to rescue the officials.

“It is very pathetic to inform you that 6 of my staff mostly drivers were kidnapped near Wovi village while on duty along Damboa-Chibok road, likewise, three of our trucks including one of our Hilux operational vehicles were snatched away.

We have informed relevant security agencies with a view to intensifying efforts rescue the victims unhurt,” he told Vanguard.

Meanwhile, bandits have kidnapped the village head of Fankama and his wife after an attack was launched in their community in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The monarch Ahmed Saidu was attacked on Monday night and abducted alongside his wife and others.

A cousin of the monarch told Premium Times that the other family members of the village head had left the village.

He said: “We have not heard from them (kidnappers) yet but we are hoping that they send a letter to the people of the community so that we know what they are after.”
