Four arrested for killing teenage house girl for stealing N2,000

Four persons have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly killing a 16-year-old house girl, Halimat Sodiq, over N2,000.

This was revealed by the spokesman of the Command, Bala Elkana, in a statement on Sunday.

Elkana said the incident was reported at about 11:30am on May 9, 2020 at Bariga Police Station.

According to available information, one Shade Moke, a female who is 41 years old, allegedly conspired with three others on February 29, 2020 to kill Sodiq over allegation of stealing.

The victim was said to be a house help to Moke.

She was accused of stealing N2,000 from Moke, which she denied.

Moke was said to have invited the other three suspects, who tortured the girl to death.

She was said to have been buried secretly at Atan Cemetery in Lagos so as to conceal the murder.

The four suspects have been arrested but they denied the allegations.

They, however, admitted slapping the girl for denying that she stole the money.

They claimed that the girl went into convulsion after drinking water and that they took her to three different hospitals before she eventually died.

The suspects denied burying Sodiq, saying it was her parents that did.

The parents of Sodiq were also contacted for their statements.

The Commissioner, Lagos State Police Command, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.

The suspects will soon be charged to Court, Elkana said.
