Security guard remanded in prison for stealing N2,385 church offering

Michael Nwaogwu, a security guard was remanded in prison custody after being arrested by the Lagos State Police and arraigned before the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba for allegedly stealing from the offering box of a church. 

The  security guard was arrested for stealing N2,385 from the offering box of the St. Dennis Catholic Church in the Akoka, Bariga area of the state. His arrest came after another security guard identified as Musa Ayay found out that the offering box had been tampered with. The money was allegedly found in his underwear after a search was conducted. 

Nwaogwu who was arraigned on one count of theft was granted bail in the sum of N30,000 with two sureties in like sum. The presiding magistrate, Oluwatoyin Ojuromi ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant before adjourning the case till August 19 for mention. He is however to be remanded in prison custody until he perfects his bail conditions.
