The father of the first baby of the year in Osun State, Mr. Abiodun Okewunmi, whose wife, Olanike was delivered of a baby around 2:18am on January 1 and honoured by the First Lady of the state, Mrs. Sherifat Aregbesola, yesterday died a few hours after the baby was delivered.
Saturday telegraph investigations revealed that the deceased met his untimely death when his motorcycle had a head on collision with that of another motorcyclist, who was coming towards his direction, after leaving Asubiaro General Hospital, Osogbo, where his wife gave birth to their child.
The incident, which happened at Ogo-Oluwa area of the town, claimed the life of the deceased, after he lost too much blood as a result of the accident.
It was gathered that the deceased was on his way to prepare meal for his wife, who complained of hunger around 8p.m that day before he died as a result of the head injury he sustained in the accident. Speaking on the development through a telephone conversation, the deceased wife, Olanike was bitter over her husband’s death.
She said: “We were so happy after receiving those gifts items from the First Lady, I later started feeling hungry, and my husband went home to prepare food for me not knowing that would be his last journey on earth.”
