The Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company has recalled 130 workers it retrenched in February.
Mr Garba Haruna, Managing Director of the company, made the disclosure at the opening of a five-day training for the re-engaged staff in Kaduna on Thursday.
He called on them to reciprocate the gesture through hard work and dedication to duty.
He said the company had put in place a mechanism to monitor the performance of the reinstated staff every week.
He charged them to use the opportunity to leverage on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), for effective discharge of their responsibilities.
“You must ensure that you bring to bear practical creative solutions and make effective use of modern ICT devices to improve your performance and ultimately enhance service delivery to our customers”, he said.
Haruna pledged to reward those who distinguished themselves in their line of duty by elevating them to higher positions, “while the poor performing ones would be sanctioned accordingly.”
He urged them to share ideas, best practices and challenges with their supervisors and other senior colleagues for timely resolution of customers’ complaints.
“Transparency and ethical business practice must be maintained at all times while dealing with customers.”
The Chief Corporate Services Officer of the company, Mr Uday Mishra, said 600 workers disengaged last year were given opportunity to participate in the re-evaluation tests while 130 were reconsidered.
Mishra said the training was aimed at acquainting the reengaged staff with new developments in the company’s working processes.
He said the staff would be given lessons on basic knowledge of the industry and field assignments to enable them correct past mistakes.
The workers had been disengaged over poor performance barely two years after they were employed.
The sack was opposed by unions who held meetings with management and demanded the reinstatement of the retrenched workers.
Alhaji Yusuf Hamisu, Chairman of the company had in a meeting with the state’s chapter of the National Union of Electricity Employees and Senior staff union, pledged to reinstate some of the workers.
