The global condemnation and outrage over the ban imposed on seven countries by the President of United States of America (USA), Donald Trump, last week through an Executive Order signed by him has continued unabated.
The United Nations World Travel Organisation (UNWTO) yesterday condemned the order. According to UNWTO, the United Nations specialised agency for tourism, President’s Trump’s ban on Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen, is condemnable because it is, ‘‘based on nationality, which it said is contrary to the principles of freedom of travel and travel facilitation promoted by the international tourism community and will hinder the immense benefits the tourism sector brings in terms of economic growth and job creation to many countries, including the USA.’’
The Secretary General of UNWTO, Dr. Talebi Riifai, in a signed statement, said the approach adopted by the US President was wrong as it can’t bring about security rather growing tensions and threats.“Global challenges demand global solutions and the security challenges that we face today should not prompt us to build new walls; on the contrary, isolationism and blind discriminatory actions will not lead to increased security but rather to growing tensions and threats,” stated Rifai.
