The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a nationwide strike, commencing from November 16, 2016.
ASUU’s President, Biodun Ogunyemi made the disclosure on Monday, after an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting which held at its headquarters located inside the University of Abuja.
According to Ogunyemi, the strike will take a warning shape for one week, pending the response from government to subsisting demands raised by the union.
He said if the Federal Government feign’s ignorance of the warning strike it shall declare an indefinite and comprehensive action.
ASUU particularly took a swipe on the Muhammadu Buhari administration, faulting the recent approval granted by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for the establishment of eight new universities.
It said the rationale for establishing more universities when the existing ones were in such a deplorable state calls to question the policies of government regarding education.
