Several members of Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) who claimed to be orphans and widows, yesterday took to streets of Kaduna to protest the detention of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky for the past eight months. The protesters were chanting slogans like “Free our leader”, “Free El-zakzaky”, “He needs medical treatment” among others.
The arrowhead of the protest, one Abdullahi Mohammed, said that they decided to embark on a peaceful demonstration because of the continuous detention of their leader by the Directorate of Security Service (DSS) since December 2015, over the bloody clash between the IMN members and men of Nigerian Army that left hundreds dead in Zaria, Kaduna State.
Also speaking, a young woman, believing to be speaking on behalf of a Zaria-based nongovernmental organization, AbdulFadI Foundation, Fauziya Saidu, said the protest would continue until their leader was released unconditionally to avail him the opportunity to seek good medical treatment.
