A woman who taped her dog’s mouth with duct tape has been spared jail and told she can keep her pet.
Katharine Lemansky, who also uses the name Katie Brown, was arrested after she posted a picture of her chocolate Labrador to Facebook.
She wrote ‘this is what happens when you dont shut up’.
On Friday a judge handed her a 60-day jail sentence suspended for a year. However, because police found the dog was well-cared for she was allowed to keep it.
An animal control officer testified in court that Lemansky admitted taping the dog’s mouth shut and called it a joke.
The image was posted on Facebook sparking a backlash.
She was charged by police in Cary, North Carolina, after being tracked down by police forces across three states.
Understandably, the post attracted a lot of attention with over 100,000 shares and people talked about how cruel it was.
