Why we arrested Wike’s SSG, Special Assistant – Army

The Nigerian Army on Sunday offered explanations on why it arrested the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Kenneth Kobani, and Cyril Nwite, Governor Nyesom Wike’s Special Assistant on Special Projects.

The explanation was offered on Sunday just as the Nigeria Police said only four persons were killed during Saturday’s rerun federal and state legislative polls.
The Commander, 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Stephenson Olabanji, said Kobani and Nwite were arrested in Gokana and Khana Local Government Areas respectively on Saturday for electoral offences.

Olabanji said: “Many people were arrested yesterday for disrupting the electoral process and the law is not meant for just the lower cadre alone.
“No matter who you are, if you go against the law, you will definitely face the music.
“So, there is nothing like being Secretary to the State Government.
“Many people were arrested as you have been told.
“A lot of people were arrested.”

Olabanji denied claims by the Rivers State Government that some commissioners and other top officials were manhandled by the Army during the rerun elections.
