Court grants bail to lawyers, Dino Melaye’s brother

A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Mpape, Abuja, yesterday admitted on bail, two lawyers, David Amaefula and Pius Udo- Inyang, who are of the law firm of Messrs Rickey Tarfa and Co. Abuja office and a brother to the embattled Senator, representing Kogi West in the Senate, Dino Melaye in the sum of N200,000 each and one surety each.

The lawyers and Melaye’s brother, Samuel were ar-rested last Tuesday by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) office, Guzape, in connection with the escape of Senator Dino Melaye, while being conveyed to Lokoja by the Police. The Magistrate, Mohammed Zubairu, had last Wednesday remanded the accused persons in Kuje prisons, after they were arraigned by the Police over alleged obstruction.

The FIR reports followed to a botched moves to forcibly relocate Melaye to Lokoja in Kogi State to answer to pending criminal allegations against him. The embattled lawmaker was said to have jumped out of the Police van conveying him to Lokoja, and was allegedly whisked away by his supporters, who were said to have blocked the road with their vehicle. Melaye was subsequently re-arrested at a private hospital, where he was admitted for treatment, and later transferred to the National Hospital in Abuja by the Police.
