Buhari’s arms probe panel member, Umar, released after 5 months detention

A detained member of the Presidential Investigative Committee on Arms Procurement, Muhammed Umar, was, Friday, released by the State Security Service, SSS, after being in their custody for five months.

Umar was alleged to have been arrested and detained on the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari after a damning evidence proved that he engaged in money laundering and illegal possession of firearms.

A retired air commodore, Umar was earlier granted bail by an Abuja Division of the Federal High Court in July but the court order was flouted by the SSS who continued to detain him since then.

However, when Umar’s case came up in court on Thursday, Nnamdi Dimgba who had been the trial judge on the case before and who had condemned the continued detention of the defendant vowed not to continue until the SSS obeyed his earlier bail order.
