Residents of Benin, the Edo State capital, on Sunday ate cold foods in honour of their late monarch, Akpolokpolo Erediauwa.
The situation led to a scarcity of fast foods.
Notable eateries, restaurants, hang outs and markets in the city were either closed to businesses, unlike before, or deserted by customers as a result of partial operation for the day.
The Benin Traditional Council on Friday asked residents not to cook with fire or use any process that generates heat on Sunday.
The directive marked the Edenagberen-Mwiwu in the funeral rites programme for the transition of the late monarch and the process of coronation of a new one.
