A 50-year-old man, Adebayo Attaihiru, has been arrested by the police in Niger State for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl in Minna, the state capital. Attaihiru was said to have defiled
the girl while sleeping on her mother’s bed in their house around the Mobil Roundabout area of Minna.
Witnesses said the girl’s mother had left her to make some purchases in the market unknown that her neighbour had an ulterior motive.
It was learnt that as soon as the woman left Attaihiru sneaked into the room where the baby was sleeping and defiled her. One of the witnesses said the suspect could have applied some grease on his private part to ease penetration.
However, the girl’s cry attracted other neighbours to the room where they met the girl wreathing in pain with blood splashed on the bed. Before neighbours could get to the room, Attaihiru scaled through the window, but people in the neighbourhood chased him and arrested him.
The suspect was handed over to the Women and Child Protection Unit of the police at Paiko Road Police Station for investigation.
Attaihiru was later transferred to the state Police Command Headquarters for more detailed investigation.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Bala Elkana, said investigation into the crime had commenced. Elkana who described the act as ‘wicked and callous,’ promised that the law would take its due course in the matter.
