Army court martials six over murder, stealing offences

The 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo, Ibadan, Wednesday arraigned six military personnel from its various units before a General Court Martial over alleged sundry acts of misconduct.
Though details of the offences were not spelt out, the military personnel were alleged to have committed criminal misdemeanors including: ‘murder, manslaughter, stealing, negligence of performance of military duties, sexual relationship with spouse of military personnel, disgraceful conduct of indecent nature, and scandalous conduct of an officer.’
The accused military personnel are of the following ranks: Major, Captain, Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant, Corporal and a Private. They allegedly committed the offences at various units under the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army.
The trial commenced immediately after the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the division, Major General Laz Ilo, inaugurated the Court Martial presided over by Brig Gen Ibikunle Raji.
The panel consisted of Col. Jimoh Audu, Lt. Col Kenneth Emefiele, Lt. Col Aliyu Emekoma, Major James Mimiola and the Judge advocate, Major Diepiriye Biambo.
