Buhari, FEC in crucial meeting over the 2016 budget

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) is currently meeting over the 2016 budget.

President Muhammadu Buhari is presiding over the meeting being held at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Federal Executive Council is expected to come up with a definite decision on the budget today.

The council had, at an emergency meeting held on April 8 to scrutinise the budget details, reportedly discovered that the National Assembly tampered with certain projects contained in the budget proposals.

The legislators were alleged to have removed from the budget, the Calabar-Lagos coastal rail line project for which the president had provided N60 billion in the budget estimates; the allegation the National Assembly had debunked.

The Federal Executive Council was also reported to have discovered that the amount proposed for the completion of the Idu-Kaduna rail project was also reduced by N8.7bn.

The National Assembly was also alleged to have inserted 386 “strange” projects worth N12.6 billion in the budget proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture.
