Controversial journalist, Piers Morgan has quit popular Good Morning Britain show on ITV following social media backlash against his stance on the viral Meghan Markle and Prince Harry interview.
In the tell-it-all interview conducted by media mogul, Oprah Winfrey, Meghan had made some startling claims, including one in which she said she was moved to suicide during pregnancy after suffering racism from the British Royal family.
Piers Morgan had said he did not “believe a word” of what Meghan said, drawing considerable social media flak, including from multiple Grammy winner, Beyonce.
Many social media users – at least 40,000 of them – also launched a barrage of complaints with the British broadcasting regulator, Ofcom, which announced Tuesday that it was launching an investigation into the complaints.
“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add,” Daily Mail quoted an unnamed ITV spokesperson as saying.
The 55-year-old helped Good Morning Britain, which he co-hosted with Susanna Reid, hit record ratings.
