Nigerians React As Falz, Mr Macaroni and Seun Kuti Decline Sanwo-Olu’s Peace Walk Invite

It is no longer news that Nigerian rapper, Falz, and Instagram comedian cum activist, Mr Marcaroni declined an invitation by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to join him in what he called ‘A Walk for Peace’ in December.
Naija News reports that the governor had in a press conference on Tuesday invited some youths in the state to join him in the “historic march for our dear Lagos.”

Those invited are Folarin Falana (Falz), Debo Adebayo (Mr Marcaroni), Dele Farotimi, Temitope Majekodunmi, Segun Awosanya (Segalink), Adedotun (Just Detoun), Seun Kuti, Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu and Commander of Rapid Response Squad (RRS), CSP Yinka Egbeyemi and others.

In a post on his social media on Tuesday, Falz described the invite as a joke and very disrespectful, adding that those killed at the Lekki Toll Gate have not received justice more than a year later.

While, Mr Marcaroni slammed the governor for inviting some youths for a peace talk instead of talking about making peace.

The comedian also urged Sanwo-Olu to implement the recommendations of the Lagos judicial panel before talking of genuine peacemaking.

Seun Anikulapo-Kuti, son of Afro-beat legend, Fela, has rejected the invite by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to a peace walk for “the healing of Lagos” in December.

The activist and singer insisted that the governor must ensure justice is served for victims of police brutality before peace walk.

“I wants peace after justice,” he said on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme.

“I don’t need to walk next to the governor before there is peace in Lagos; there has been peace in Lagos before many years and nobody have to walk anywhere for it.

“If there is justice, then we can discuss peace. In fact, there will be no need to walk for peace because justice itself is the walk of peace. The governor should walk the walk he is talking about by giving us justice.”

Reacting to the development, young Nigerians on social media have commended the rapper and comedian for rejecting the proposal of the Governor. They also demanded justice for those allegedly killed at the Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2020.
