House Of Reps Confirms Service Chiefs Appointment

The House of Representatives has confirmed the appointments of Service Chiefs following the adoption of the report of its ad hoc committee set up to screen them.

It has been reported that the Green Chamber confirmed the appointment of the service chiefs during plenary on Wednesday.

The House of Representatives had on Monday commenced the screening of the service chiefs days after the Senate confirmed the appointment of the military chiefs.

The screening committee was led by the Majority Leader of the House, Julius Ihonvbere (APC – Edo State).

The confirmations included Major-General Christopher Gwabin Musa as the Chief Of Defence Staff; Major-General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja as the Chief Of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Emmanuel lkechukwu Ogalla as the Chief Of Naval Staff, and Air Vice Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar as the Chief Of Air Staff.

The Chairman of the Adhoc Committee of the House, Babajimi Benson, had said members of the Armed Forces must adhere strictly to the provisions of the Appropriation Act and urged them to work in synergy by sharing intelligence.

He had further said that the performances of the service chiefs would be reviewed by the National Assembly if they are confirmed.

Recall that President Tinubu appointed the new service chiefs on June 19, 2023, exactly three weeks after his inauguration.
