Nigerians React As Zamfara Govt Asks Residents To Get Guns Against Bandits

Several reactions have trailed the directives of the Zamfara State Government for qualified citizens to bear arms against bandit terrorists.

News360 Info had earlier reported that the Zamfara government made a statement through Ibrahim Magaji Dosara, Commissioner for Information, asked the Commissioner of Police to issue a gun license to those eligible for it.

The government said it has resolved to take further measures to deal with the recent escalating attacks, kidnapping, and criminal levies enforced on innocent communities.

It said this act of terrorism had been a source of worry and concern to the people and government of the state. It added that it is ready to facilitate people, especially farmers, secure basic weapons to defend themselves.

The government said it had directed individuals to prepare and obtain guns to defend themselves against the bandits, adding that the state commissioner of police has been directed to issue licenses to all those who qualify and are willing to obtain such guns to defend themselves.

The government has already decided to distribute 500 forms to each of the 19 Emirates in the state for those willing to obtain guns to defend themselves.

Reacting to the development, some netizens have reacted to the directive given to Zamfara residents to arm themselves against bandit terrorists.

See some of the reactions below.

@DanielRegha wrote: “Telling residents to “buy guns” & defend themselves against bandits is nonsense; That’s the job of uniform officers. In addition, this will only lead to unnecessary bloodshed, & an increase in crime cos a lot of people will abuse the right to own a gun. Govt shouldn’t approve this.”

@Ibnbazo wrote: “The US is now suffering from mass gun violence in the country for allowing civilians to possess arms.
I am seriously scared of the huge dangers here.”

@royal_wohu wrote: “Rather than licensing the use of guns, redeployment of a huge number of police officers to Zamfara should have been better especially those ones that usually show up during protests.”

@Ugochichops wrote: “I hope it’s not a preparation for the inevitable come 2023 coz this guy’s can actually do anything to keep power & it’s even more dangerous giving the facts that majority of them are not learned.
Having a gun isn’t the best solution but the government should put things in place.”

@olusesan_peter wrote: “Ahhhh this the current pandemic affect America we should learn from their mistake it the job of the government to provide security wen it becomes the job of each citizen to have a gun civil and emotional matter ends with a loud noise from the muzzle.”

@MagsonJNR01 wrote: “Buy guns???.. is that the solution?.. Moreso how do u expect a villager who hardly survives on farming to earn the money to buy himself a gun?…”

@DinmaLove5 wrote: “The best is mobilizing 10 youths from each local government. Provide guns for them and issue them warning on when and how to use it. They will be working under their local government, terrorists, bandits, enemies & saboteurs of the state such as military men/policemen.”

@gudys4all wrote: “They voted you to protect them. You are saying you can’t handle it anymore.. Then quit the office.. Why will everyone have a gun so that the killings won’t just be bandits, but door-to-door killings if a small issue comes up… You dey mad Zamfara Governor.”
