Former Presidential Candidate, Sowore Arrested In Abuja

The presidential candidate of African Action Congress in the 2019 election, Omoyele Sowore has been allegedly arrested by police in Abuja.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Femi Adeyeye, in a statement released on Thursday disclosed that Sowore was arrested after stepping out of the court where the chairman and members of the party had converged to witness the case of the party against the Independent National Electoral Commission and usurpers.

The publisher of Sahara Reporters had filed an appeal against the ruling of the Federal High Court that declared Leonard Nzenwa as the acting Chairman of the AAC.

Adeyeye while speaking on the arrest of the activist claimed that he was taken to the former Special Anti Robbery Squad, which is popularly called “Abattoir”

According to the AAC spokesman, police operatives that arrested Sowore did not give any reason for his arrest.

The statement reads, “As at the time of releasing this statement that he is currently at the dreaded SARS unit called ‘Abattoir’ and men from that station were the ones who carried out the arrest.

We are monitoring these events and we can assure all members that these re-occurring illegalities and attacks won’t be allowed to stand. The specific reason(s) for his arrest remain sketchy at this time.”
