Wema Bank staff, accomplice steal from ATM


A staff of Wema Bank headquarters, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, Dayo Omozefe, 30, who operates the bank’s ATM has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court for allegedly conniving with Okugbesan Femi to steal the sum of N277,000 undebited ATM funds.

Also arraigned with him was, Okugbesan Femi from Ogun state for allegedly providing his bank account with which they stole the money.

The accused persons according to investigation were arrested by the DPO in charge of Lion Building Division, CSP Folashade Tanaruno following a complaint by the management of Wema Bank that the accused persons stole their undebited funds from an ATM.

Omozefe, a resident of 46, Fagba Daddy Savage Street, Lagos and Femi were arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ court in Lagos on a four-count charge of felony to wit, stealing.

Police prosecutor, SGT, Oladejo Balogun informed the court that the accused persons committed the offence in December, 2015 and March, 18 2016 at Wema Bank Headquarters, Lagos.


Balogun told the court that the first accused fraudulently transferred the sum of N277,000 undebited funds from ATM to Femi’s account from where they withdrew the money and shared it instead of remitting the money back into his employer’s account.


Balogun said the offences the accused persons committed are punishable under sections 409,404(1),285(7) of the criminal Laws of Lagos State,2011.

The accused persons denied the police charge in court.

Magistrate Mr O.A Amos admitted them to bail in the sum of N25,000 and N50,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

Amos adjourned the case till 27 June,2016 for mention while the defendant were taken to Ikoyi Prison, Lagos pending when they will fulfil their bail conditions.
