Labour Protesters Demand To See Oshiomhole After Breaking Down National Assembly’s Gate

Protesting members of the organized labour that stormed the National Assembly on Wednesday demanded to see former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

News360 Info recalls the protesters on Wednesday kicked down the first gate of the National Assembly complex and forced their way into the premises.

Led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, and Trade Union Congress (TUC) President, Festus Osifo, the protesters had earlier asked security operatives stationed at the legislative building to open the gate to allow the angry workers to express their displeasure.

Following the failure of the security officials to adhere, angry protesters pulled down the gate and subsequently moved to the second gate of the Assembly Complex.

Due to the development, the Senate, led by President Godswill Akpabio, immediately entered into a closed-door session and eventually resolved that the red chamber had set up a three-man committee to meet with the protesters at the National Assembly.

The Senate Committee was led by the chief whip of the senate; Ali Ndume and includes Ireti Kingibe who represents the FCT in the senate; and Tony Nwoye who represents Anambra North.

They, alongside some other lawmakers, stood on the railings of the complex to address the irate crowd.

However, the protesters while chanting solidarity songs and slogans, demanded to see Oshiomhole.

“Where is Oshiomhole?….where is Oshiomhole?” the crowd shouted as Ndume made to speak.

Oshiomhole was NLC president from 1999 to 2007 before emerging as the Edo State Governor. In 2023, he contested and won the Edo North senatorial seat in the National Assembly.
