Man arraigned for destroying economic trees in Ekiti

A middle-aged man, Sola Ojo, has been arraigned by the Ekiti State Police Command for allegedly damaging economic trees amid an ongoing land dispute.

Ojo is accused of felling important trees on land currently under litigation in another court case.

The incident reportedly occurred in April 2025 in Omuo-Ekiti, where Ojo and unidentified accomplices allegedly caused public disorder, risking violence or confusion.

The police charged Ojo under Section 181(d) of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021, citing his actions as unlawful.

Represented by Barrister J. O. Olajide, Ojo pleaded for bail, which Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted.

The judge ordered Ojo to pay a bail sum of ₦50,000 and to provide a surety of equal amount.

The case has been adjourned to June 17 for hearing.
