A Muslim woman has criticised certain Nigerian content creators over what she describes as a growing trend that is dangerous, unfair, and harmful to an entire community.
According to her, the constant use of Hausa language, hijabs, jalabias, turbans and Islamic imagery in skits to represent bandits or criminals is not “content” — it is profiling, and it has real-life consequences.
She warned that many people around the world who do not understand Nigeria may end up believing that every Hausa speaker, every Northerner and every Muslim is tied to crime — a stereotype she says is harmful and irresponsible.
She added that Northern Nigerians already deal with unfair labels like “illiterate” or “backward,” and content creators are now “adding salt to their wound” by turning an entire culture and religion into a joke.
Her message was firm; Criminals have no tribe, no religion, no language — bandits and kidnappers are not cultural representatives. They are simply criminals.
She urged creators to stop using Hausa and Muslim identities as props for crime-related skits, stressing that it puts innocent people at risk, affects how they are treated abroad and fuels bias in workplaces and everyday life.
