Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested four male suspects in separate sting operations across the state for offences including armed robbery, cultism, unlawful possession of firearms, and drug trafficking.
According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe on Wednesday, a beretta pistol, a locally made firearm, and quantities of illegal drugs suspected to be “Loud” were recovered.
The suspects, identified as 35 years old Ikechukwu Ugwele (aka “Angle 90”), 25 years old Emmanuel Eze (aka “Camara”), 29 years old Uchenna Nwudi (aka “Asai”), and 32 years old Eze Chiadikobi, were arrested by specialized tactical squads of the command between May 8 and May 9, 2025,
“Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested four male suspects in separate operations for offences of armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, cultism, and drug trafficking,” the statement said.
On May 9, police operatives from the Crack Tactical Squad apprehended Ugwele and recovered from him substances suspected to be “Loud” — a high-grade variant of marijuana. Following interrogation, he led officers to where a Beretta pistol was hidden.
“He confessed to several criminal activities and led operatives to the firearm’s recovery,” Ndukwe noted.
In a related development, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested Emmanuel Eze on May 8 and recovered a locally fabricated pistol. His arrest followed confessions made by two earlier suspects, Uchenna Nwudi and Eze Chiadikobi.
Nwudi confessed to being a fabricator of firearms, while Chiadikobi was said to be involved in transformer vandalism.
All three suspects also admitted membership of the notorious Vikings Confraternity.
“The suspects confessed to being members of the Vikings Confraternity,” police disclosed.
Police say all suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The development comes just days after the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, gave an update on the command’s recent security efforts during a press briefing on May 8.
He revealed that no fewer than 291 suspects have been arrested since he assumed office in March 2025.
Breakdown of the arrests include 42 for armed robbery, 33 for kidnapping, 12 for murder, 6 for unlawful possession of firearms, 5 for rape and defilement, 44 for cultism and 149 for other criminal offences
The Commissioner also confirmed the rescue of 36 kidnapped victims, as well as the recovery of 44 firearms, 173 rounds of ammunition, and 20 vehicles linked to criminal activities.
CP Giwa reaffirmed his commitment to ridding Enugu of crime, describing the arrests and recoveries as “a result of proactive and intelligence-led policing.”
“The Command’s resolve to sustain the fight against unrepentant criminals remains firm,” he stated, while urging citizens to “remain cooperative and vigilant in ensuring public security and safety.”
