A chilling incident unfolded at the Jigawa State Secretariat Complex in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, as a suspected vandal attempting to tamper with armoured electrical cables met a tragic end, electrocuted by the very system he sought to exploit.
Confirming the incident, the Jigawa State Police Command said the incident occurred around 10 am on Wednesday.
The command in a statement made by its Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, stated that the police received a distress call from the Ministry of Works regarding the event and responded swiftly.
The statement revealed that upon the arrival of the police, they discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified male adult under a slab containing electrical wiring.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, preliminary investigations showed that the deceased was electrocuted while attempting to vandalise the cables.
“The body, which had begun to decompose, was evacuated to the Dutse General Hospital for a medical examination. This gruesome incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with vandalising public infrastructure, particularly electrical installations,” the PPRO said.

The Jigawa State Police Command stated it strongly condemned such criminal acts and warned the public against engaging in hazardous and unlawful activities.
Accordingly, the command spokesperson said the Jigawa police remained committed to protecting public property and ensuring the safety of lives and infrastructure across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious person or activity in their communities to the nearest police station.
“This incident highlights the importance of community policing and cooperation in maintaining security,” he added.
The PPRO, however, confirmed that the police were working to identify the deceased and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“As the investigation progresses, the command will provide additional updates. This incident serves as a warning to would-be vandals and a reminder of the consequences of their actions,” Adam stated.
