The tragic incident in Ikyac-Gev Village, Makurdi, involved gunmen suspected to be herders, who killed a serving police inspector, Igba Terwase Timothy, and another civilian. The attack occurred as the inspector was returning from his village after receiving treatment for a knee injury. His younger brother reported the incident, prompting an immediate police response.
During the search operation, the bodies of the victims were recovered. In retaliation, the Benue State Commissioner of Police deployed the tactical unit, Operation Zenda, to track the assailants. The operatives traced them to a suspected herders’ camp, where a gun battle ensued. The attackers fled, abandoning a 12-year-old boy believed to be one of their junior accomplices. The boy is now in police custody, assisting with investigations.
The Benue State Police Command has assured residents of intensified patrols and surveillance to prevent further attacks.
