67th Grammys: Tems beats Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido to win Best African Music Performance

Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, outshone her compatriots Davido, Yemi Alade, Burna Boy, Wizkid and Asake, to clinch the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th Grammys on Sunday.

Tems’ hit song ‘Love Me Jeje’ emerged victorious over “Tomorrow” (Yemi Alade); “MMS” (Asake & Wizkid); “Sensational” (Chris Brown featuring Davido & Lojay); and “Higher” (Burna Boy).

“Love Me Jeje”, a sample of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 song of the same title, has received critical acclaim from global music buffs following its release last April.

Meanwhile, Tems missed out on her two other nominations.

She lost the Best R&B Song to SZA’S “Saturn” and the Best Global Music Album to Matt B featuring Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s “Alkebulan II”.
