NiMet Forecasts Dust Haze, Rain Across Nigeria For Three Days

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected a mix of dust haze and rainfall across various regions in Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.

According to NiMet’s weather report released on Sunday in Abuja, the northern region will experience slight dust haze on Monday, with localized visibility ranging from 2 to 5 km.

In southern Nigeria, inland areas are forecast to have sunny skies with a hazy atmosphere, while parts of Lagos, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River may see light rains and thunderstorms in the morning.

By afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with light rains are likely in areas including southern Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Edo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta States.

On Tuesday, NiMet anticipates a continuation of slight dust haze in the northern and North Central regions with visibility again between 2 and 5 km.

For Wednesday, the forecast indicates a repeat of slight dust haze with reduced visibility across the northern and North Central regions.

In the southern region, inland areas will remain sunny and hazy, while coastal states could have patches of clouds. Later in the day, moderate rains and thunderstorms are predicted for parts of Lagos, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom.

NiMet has advised the public, especially individuals with respiratory conditions, to exercise caution as dust particles are suspended in the air. Additionally, strong winds may accompany thunderstorms in regions expecting rainfall.
