The deaths of a police officer and a member of the community vigilante in Omuma Local Government Area have been confirmed by the Rivers State Police Command.
The council secretariat’s security staff allegedly promised to prevent supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara from entering the building.
According to eyewitness accounts, there was a dispute between police officers on different sides, which resulted in intermittent firing and the officer’s death.
In reporting the occurrence on Tuesday, Grace Iringo-Koko, the public relations officer for the command, said that “an investigation is ongoing to unravel the cause of the deaths of the police officer and the local vigilante member.”
