Police search for hoodlums for beheading LG chair

The police in Imo State on Monday confirmed the beheading of the Sole Administrator of the Ideato North Local Government Area of the state, Chris Ohizu.

The Imo State Police Command has announced that an officer attached to the Oguta Divisional headquarters lost his life, at the weekend, during a gun battle with unknown gunmen.

The police in Imo State, South-east Nigeria, have spoken on the recent beheading of Christopher Ohizu, the sole administrator of Ideato North Local Government Area of the state.

The statement read in part, “The Imo State Police Command is aware of the iniquitous and obscene video that has gone viral on social media where a man, suspected to be the abducted Ideato North LGA sole administrator, was seen kneeling and his hands tied while undergoing inhuman act.

He was subsequently killed by suspected members of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed affiliate, Eastern Security Network.

The police spokesperson in Imo State, Henry Okoye, disclosed this to reporters in Owerri, the state capital, Vanguard newspaper reported.”

The police spokesman said investigation had begun into the abduction and murder of the victim.

The Guardian gathered that in 2022, no fewer than 10 officers were killed by hoodlums, while this year, about five have died in similar circumstance in about 30 police stations and other facilities across the state.He noted that the command was on the trail of the hoodlums before the “obscene video” surfaced on the Internet.

The hoodlums fled the scene when they were overpowered by the operatives, he said.Okoye urged the public to assist the police with credible information and report any clandestine activities or suspicious person(s) to the nearest police station.“

The command wishes to inform the good people of the state that we are already on top of the situation following a high-powered investigation inaugurated by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Barde,” Mr Okoye said.

Mr Okoye said the police in the state had begun an operation to track down the hoodlums.

The PPRO said the hoodlums fled due to the superior firepower exhibited by the police operatives during the exchange of gunfire.
