Nigerians React As Zamfara Govt Asks Residents To Get Guns Against Bandits

Several reactions have trailed the directives of the Zamfara State Government for qualified citizens to bear arms against bandit terrorists.

News360 Info had earlier reported that the Zamfara government made a statement through Ibrahim Magaji Dosara, Commissioner for Information, asked the Commissioner of Police to issue a gun license to those eligible for it.

The government said it has resolved to take further measures to deal with the recent escalating attacks, kidnapping, and criminal levies enforced on innocent communities.

It said this act of terrorism had been a source of worry and concern to the people and government of the state. It added that it is ready to facilitate people, especially farmers, secure basic weapons to defend themselves.

The government said it had directed individuals to prepare and obtain guns to defend themselves against the bandits, adding that the state commissioner of police has been directed to issue licenses to all those who qualify and are willing to obtain such guns to defend themselves.

The government has already decided to distribute 500 forms to each of the 19 Emirates in the state for those willing to obtain guns to defend themselves.

Reacting to the development, some netizens have reacted to the directive given to Zamfara residents to arm themselves against bandit terrorists.

@DanielRegha wrote: “Telling residents to “buy guns” & defend themselves against bandits is nonsense; That’s the job of uniform officers. In addition, this will only lead to unnecessary bloodshed, & an increase in crime cos a lot of people will abuse the right to own a gun. Govt shouldn’t approve this.”

I am seriously scared of the huge dangers here.”

Having a gun isn’t the best solution but the government should put things in place.”

@DinmaLove5 wrote: “The best is mobilizing 10 youths from each local government. Provide guns for them and issue them warning on when and how to use it. They will be working under their local government, terrorists, bandits, enemies & saboteurs of the state such as military men/policemen.”

@gudys4all wrote: “They voted you to protect them. You are saying you can’t handle it anymore.. Then quit the office.. Why will everyone have a gun so that the killings won’t just be bandits, but door-to-door killings if a small issue comes up… You dey mad Zamfara Governor.”
