2023: PDP Announces Date To Hold NEC Meeting On Zoning, National Convention

Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scheduled its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for Wednesday, May 4, 2022.

This the party noted that the meeting will be coming ahead of its 2023 national convention slated for 28 and 29 May.

PDP revealed this in a statement signed and made available to newsmen on Saturday, April 23 by its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Naija News reports.

A report by a 37-man committee led by Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, already submitted to the National Working Committee (NWC) will be considered at the party’s 96th NEC meeting.

The meeting according to Anyawu will hold at the NEC Hall PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja at 2 pm on the scheduled dates.

“All members of the National Executive Committee of our great party are invited to the 96th NEC meeting scheduled as follows: Date: Wednesday, May 4, 2022,” the statement noted.

Meanwhile, the Northern Elders Forum on Friday endorsed former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State as the northern consensus presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This was made known by NEF spokesperson, Ango Abdullahi, in Minna, Niger State capital.

Recall that Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Governor Bala Mohammed, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen had criss-crossed the country hoping to pick a consensus candidate amongst themselves ahead of the PDP presidential primaries.

Speaking on Friday, Ango Abdullahi stated that the decision to select Saraki and Bala was arrived at after they scaled the criteria for selection.

According to him, these criteria included candidates assessment, zonal assessment, and PDP previous experiences.
