Sheikh Yusuf Alibawa, a Sokoto based Islamic cleric, on Friday admonished Nigerians to offer special prayers to stop further spread of Lassa fever and other killer diseases in the country.
Alibawa told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto that prayers among the faithful will ensure God intervention in the country’s health sector.
“Religious leaders of the two major religions of Islam and Christianity should mobilise their followers to seek God’s intervention to prevent the disease from spreading in the country,’’ he said.
He also called on religious leaders to continue to offer similar prayers against the disease and the current security challenges bedevilling the country.
He advised Nigerians to adhere strictly to the preventive measures approved by health experts to stop the death of innocent Nigerians, stressing that prayers are necessary to curb the disease.
The cleric also called on federal and state governments to equip health institutions with modern equipment to ensure effective and qualitative healthcare delivery in the country.
