Obama sends investors to Buhari

From right: United States Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker; President Muhammadu Buhari; and Vice-President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, during the secretary’s visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday.

A 10-man delegation of American businessmen and women yesterday visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
he leader of the delegation and United States Secretary of Commerce, Ms Penny Pritzker told Buhari that her team was in Nigeria at the prompting of US Barrack Obama.

Pritzker said they were in Nigeria to better understand the opportunities and challenges of doing business in the country.

She said her team was very optimistic about President Buhari’s administration’s commitment to security, good governance, fighting corruption, having reliable and regular regulatory policies.

President Buhari said his government would continue to welcome the support and understanding of the United States as it strives to achieve greater internal security and socio-economic progress in Nigeria.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who was at the meeting, noted that though Nigeria currently faced serious challenges, it was also a time of great opportunities for the nation.

  1. As usual, the “national buffet” continues for “international investors”. We never seem to learn as a nation, these “investors” are only looking for “opportunities” to make their own country better with our resources. There are some foreign investors in Nigeria already (e.g. MTN, DSTV … Etc). How has their existence been of benefit to the majority of Nigerians as a people, and Nigeria as a country?

MTN posts very handsome profits in N trillions per year, yet employs only a paltry 6,000 staffs. At the slightest opportunity (such as the last xenophobic attack in SA) they’re quick to remind us that they’re doing us a favor by employing just 6000 staffs and would throw them into the labor market if they’re attacked.
