Guard docked over housebreaking, theft

The police have accused a 27-year-old guard, Phillip Adeleke, of stealing several engineering equipment worth N820,000 from his employer’s store.

Adeleke, from Saki in Oyo State, was arraigned Monday at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on a two-count charge of breaking and entering, and stealing.

Prosecuting Sergeant Nicholas Akpene standing in for Sergeant Babatope Julius told the court that the defendant, who came to Lagos in 2008, was employed as a guard at a construction site at Ikate-Elegushi when he allegedly committed the offences.

He further alleged that on December 28, 2015 the defendant, of no fixed address, broke into a store at the site and stole a 7.5 KVA KIPOR generator, Steel Scaffold, Acro Props Pipes and a pumping machine all valued at N820,000, property of one Charles Iwobho.

The offences contravene Sections 307(1) and 285(1)(7) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011, the prosecutor added.

However, the defendant denied both charges and was granted bail of N100,000 with two sureties in the like sum by presiding magistrate, Mrs. F. M. Dalley.
