Twitter reacts to President Buhari’s Independence Day address

The micro-blogging platform, Twitter, currently banned in Nigeria, has reacted to the Independence Day address of President Muhammadu Buhari and said it eagerly anticipated the social medium’s reinstatement in the West African country.

Twitter indicated it has been in “productive” discussions with the Nigerian government.

An anonymous Twitter executive tweeted a message on Friday, in which he said: “We continue to engage with the Nigerian government and we are committed to charting a path forward to the restoration of Twitter for everyone in Nigeria.

“Discussions with the Nigerian government have been respectful and productive –we look forward to seeing the service restored very soon.”

The social media platform’s statement followed the Nigerian president’s announcement in his Independence Day address that the Twitter ban would be lifted.

However, Buhari added the caveat that the ban would be revoked after certain conditions have been met.
