PDP senators in closed-door meeting to stop Amaechi’s ministerial confirmation

Senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday held a closed door meeting immediately after plenary session.
The meeting was to take a stand on the confirmation of a former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and 17 others as ministers.
The plot is to stop Amaechi’s confirmation.
The former governor was screened last week after three postponements.
The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, deferred the confirmation of the nominees after the Senate screened five more nominees on Wednesday.
However, an insider at the PDP senators caucus meeting, chaired by the Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, said plans had been concluded to scuttle Amaechi’s confirmation and that of Pastor Usani Uguru Usani.
Usani angered the PDP senators when his answer to a question was believed to have cast aspersions on them.
When asked if he had worked with any of the PDP senators, he replied: “God forbid.”
But All Progressives Congress senators on the other hand are said to be determined to ensure that all the nominees scaled through the confirmation hurdle.
The Senate Leader, Mohammed Ali Ndume, had consistently said the Senate belongs to the APC as the majority party in the chamber.
Ndume also said the minority would be allowed its say while the majority would have its way.
Ndume said the PDP senators cannot stop the confirmation of any nominee.
Those screened on Wednesday included Okechukwu Eyinna Enelamah (Abia), Prof. Anthony Anwukah (Imo), Mohammed Musa Bello (Adamawa), Adamu Adamu(Bauchi) and Aisha Bello (Sokoto).
Also to be confirmed on Thursday are Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim (Yobe), Claudius Omoleye Daramola (Ondo), Geoffrey Onyeama ( Enugu) Brigadier Mohammed M. Dan-Ali (Zamfara), Barrister James E. Ocholi (Kogi), Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed (Kaduna), Mustapha Baba Shehuri (Borno), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri (Bayelsa), Prof. Isaac Adewole Folorunsho (Osun), Pastor Usani Usani Uguru (Cross River), Abubakar Bwari Bawa (Niger) and Barrister Adebayo Shittu (Oyo)‎.
