Many Residents Killed As Air Force Jet Drops Bombs On Borno Village

At least 20 persons have been killed as Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jet mistakenly rained bombs on Kwatar Daban Masara village in Borno State.
Naija News learned that the village is about 50 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

According to AFP, the air force mistakenly killed the victims who are said to be fishermen in an airstrike that occurred on Sunday.

It was gathered that information about the tragedy had been slow to circulate due to obsolete communications infrastructure in the area.

The attack came barely two weeks after the Nigerian Air Force bombed a community in Yobe, killing at least 12 people and injuring many.

The Air Force initially denied the report that it dropped a bomb on Buwari village as false, but later admitted and promised an investigation into the said incident.

The Nigerian military has been conducting air raids across the region since 2009 when Boko Haram insurgents launched attacks against the state.

In 2017, an air force pilot dropped a bomb on a village in Rann, Borno, killing dozens of civilians. The military apologised and promised a thorough investigation but did not make its findings public four years on.
