Graduates should be taught to handle guns – Ishaku wants NYSC extended to two years

Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has said that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme should be extended to a two-year program.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, the Governor noted that one year of the program should be for military training and the other year for social works.

According to him, there is a need for corps members to undergo military training following increased insecurity in the country.

“The NYSC I will say should be two years. One year for compulsory military training and the other year for the social works that they are doing now.

I believe this is necessary so that anyone who graduates can know how to handle guns and defend himself due to the current situation in the country.

I will still request that the Federal Government puts this into consideration and teach them how to use guns to protect themselves. They should train 10 or 20 people in each village along the axis of the boundaries,” he said.
