JAMB Approves Use Of Personal Computers For UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will allow candidates to use their personal computers for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as from 2027.

This was announced on Monday by JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, while speaking at the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions in Abuja.

He said candidates would be allowed to use their personal devices for the examination, but a flash drive would be inserted to prevent malpractice.

Oloyede explained that the option would be cheaper and easier to manage and would also address complaints from candidates who often report that their computer went off during the examination.

He said the measure was designed to make the process more convenient while maintaining the integrity of the test.

He also disclosed that other innovations that are in the 90 percent stage will also be introduced in the year 2027.

Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Education has announced that candidates seeking admission into Federal Colleges of Education will no longer be required to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

News360 INFO reports that the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, announced the policy change on Monday at the 2026 Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja.

Alausa said the exemption would also apply to candidates seeking admission into programmes in technology, agriculture and related courses.

He explained that the move was aimed at easing access to critical education and skills-based programmes.

The minister, however, said affected candidates must possess the required basic O’Level qualifications.
