A fire outbreak at a filling station in Song, Adamawa State, has caused the destruction of trucks and other valuable assets.
It was gathered on Friday that the inferno which occurred within the Song township in the night of Thursday through Friday, rapidly engulfed much of the fuel station and an adjacent furniture showroom.
Witnesses said the intense inferno triggered panic in the vicinity, but combined efforts of individuals in the neighbourhood helped in putting out the fire and preventing spread and loss of life.
Local sources in another part of the state, in Vuniklang, a community only a couple of kilometres from the heart of the capital city, Yola, indicated Friday night that a rented residential building was gutted by fire, causing destruction to household items and much of the affected building.
Also in Jimeta, the heart of Yola North Local Government Area, a house in Badarawo, suffered a fate similar to that in Vuniklang.
The Badarawo house, a resident of the area recalled, went up in smoke as daylight was giving way to night time on Friday.
Of the three incidents, the Song filling station fire attracted the most responses from people in and outside the government.
Chairman of Song Local Government, Idris Yahaya, paid a visit to the fire scenes, expressing sympathy to the owners of both the filling station and furniture house.
“This is a trying moment for our community and the affected families. We share in your grief and losses,” Yahaya said, assuring that his council would give some support to help them recover from their losses.
