At least one person has been confirmed dead following a violent confrontation between suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities in the Awoyaya axis of Lagos State.
It was gathered that the unrest, captured in multiple videos shared on the Telegram channel Naija Confra, a platform known for reporting cult-related incidents, threw residents into panic as the clash escalated.
The violence reportedly began on Monday and spilled into Tuesday, culminating in the death of a young man identified simply as Pelebe.
A short clip showed the victim clad in blue jeans and a white shirt, sprawled on the floor and writhing in pain.
Another video posted on Wednesday depicted residents scampering for safety while some onlookers filmed the unfolding chaos from a distance.
Additional graphic images revealed another victim with a severe gunshot wound to the leg.
“Earlier today (Tuesday), we reported a serious cult clash in the Awoyaya area of Ibeju-Lekki involving Eiye and Aiye, where killings happened yesterday (Monday) and today (Tuesday),” the post on Naija Confra partly read.
It also noted that another individual “was shot in the leg in the Iya Alagbo area” during a separate attack.
Although unconfirmed reports suggested that security operatives had made arrests, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, told our correspondent she would “revert.”
She had yet to provide an update as of the time this report was filed.
The latest outbreak of violence comes barely two weeks after gunmen, believed to be members of rival cult groups, opened fire during the annual masquerade festival in the Orile-Iganmu area of the state.
