The Kogi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned Senator Dino Melaye to stop presenting himself as a member of the party, insisting that he has no affiliation with the ADC at any level.
The party’s Public Relations Officer, Tayo John, stated this on Friday (today) in Lokoja, accusing the former lawmaker of repeatedly interfering in party affairs and launching unwarranted attacks on the ADC.
“Let me state unequivocally that Dino Melaye is not a member of ADC in Kogi State. He is not known in his ward as a member of our party,” John said.
“Therefore, he has no identity in our party and cannot speak in the interest of ADC in Kogi State.”
The party spokesman accused Melaye of using the ADC’s name merely for publicity.
“Dino is not a recognised member of ADC. He is an imposter; his activities don’t align with those of the African Democratic Congress,” he said.
According to John, Melaye has neither paid membership dues nor participated in any party activity at the state, local government, or ward levels, prerequisites for valid membership.
“With this, he is not qualified or recognised to represent our party at any level,” he added.
John reaffirmed that Hon. Leke Abejide, a two-term House of Representatives member elected under the ADC platform, remains the party’s national leader.
“Hon. Leke Abejide is a standing member of ADC. He has been a financial member since 2018 to date,” he said.
He stressed that Melaye and others in the coalition only met Abejide in the party and cannot claim authority over him.
“They met Leke Abejide in the ADC, and his supposed suspension or expulsion is illegal,” John stated. “Abejide is already in court against them. They have no right to call for his seat to be declared vacant.”
The ADC urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Inspector-General of Police, and the general public to disregard Melaye’s comments and political claims.
“His aim is to destroy ADC the same way he has destroyed his former acclaimed political parties through self-gain. It will not be tolerated,” John warned.
He added that the outcome of two major court cases, one filed by Abejide and the other by the Benue ADC chairman, will ultimately determine who truly controls the party.
