Atiku Reacts To Abduction Of School Girls In Kebbi

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the deadly attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, describing it as another grim signal that insecurity in the country has reached alarming levels.

In a statement on Monday, Atiku said he was “devastated” by the killing of the school’s Vice-Principal and the abduction of several students during Monday’s early-morning raid.

“This is yet another reminder of the worsening insecurity in our nation,” he said.

The former Vice President also condemned the killing of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Umar Moriki, as well as the mass abductions in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where bandits reportedly whisked away entire families.

“These acts of barbarity have no place in a civilized society,” Atiku said.

He lamented that violent attacks were spreading across several states, citing recent incidents in Plateau, Benue and other regions where communities remain under siege.

Atiku referenced the escalating situation in Shanono LGA of Kano State, where residents have begun fleeing their communities due to persistent armed attacks. He warned that the worsening security climate has reached “intolerable levels.”

“Nigeria cannot continue on this path,” he cautioned.

Atiku urged the Federal Government to review the existing security architecture urgently, deploy more personnel to vulnerable communities, and prioritise intelligence-driven operations to stem the wave of violence.

“Our citizens deserve protection, dignity, and peace, nothing less,” he said.

He reiterated that protecting lives and property must remain the top priority of government, stressing that no nation can attain meaningful progress while citizens live under constant threat.

“Safeguarding the lives of Nigerians must be paramount. Without security, nothing else can thrive,” he added.
