Court grants bail to four suspects in murder case

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted bail to four suspects accused of attempting to assassinate the leader of the Conscience of the Ogoni People, Gani Topba.

The suspects were granted bail on Tuesday in the sum of N500,000 each, with three sureties.

In her ruling on the bail application filed by defence counsel, the trial judge, Justice Augusta Chukwu, directed that the first surety must be a government-recognized traditional ruler from Zaakpa community, while the second surety must be a staff of Khana Local Government Council not below Grade Level 15.

Justice Chukwu further ruled that the third surety must own a building within Port Harcourt City and ordered the suspects to submit their bank details to the court.

The case was thereafter adjourned to November 18, 2025, for accelerated hearing.

The four suspects, Saviour Robbert, also known as Timberland; Leesor Kpugisere; Leeka Dele-Manapo; and Deele Akpobari, popularly called Bob Satan, along with others now at large, are facing seven counts bordering on conspiracy, attempted murder, cultism, and unlawful possession of firearms, among others.

They were alleged to have, on March 12, 2023, ambushed Topba on his way from his community, Zaakpa in Khana Local Government Area, and shot him multiple times, leaving him unconscious.
